Never Forgotten
Myanmar is bordered by Thailand on the East, India on the West and China on the North with a vast coastline on the Andaman Sea to the South. It is by far the poorest of all three and one of the poorest countries per capita in the world considered Severe LICUS or Fourth World. In this Myanmar traditional folk song a story is told by an old man remembering the love of his youth. This special "harp" is called Saung in Myanmar. I have visited this amazing country twice and fell in love with the pople and beauty of the land, but horrified first hand at the treatment of the people of this country by the cruel Military government. I pray Aung San Suu Kyi imprisonment as a nonviolent pro-democracy activist and leader of the National League for Democracy will some day soon be released, and that her people beome free to once again enjoy life. I will not return to Mayanmar until that day as all our tourist dollars go into the pockets of the corrupt militaty government. In the meantime this song reminds the hearts of all Burmese people what was once theirs and for them not give up hope!
