Southside Johnny - The Stone Pony 1991
Formed in 1974, Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes came out of the same New Jersey bar club scene as his now legendary contemporary and friend Bruce Springsteen. Like him, Southside Johnny was inspired by the classic R&B and Rock & Roll sounds of the Fifties and Sixties and fronts a dynamic and rocking big band famous for its spectacular live performances. In marked contrast to the scale and spectacle of one of his big major venue concerts, this one captures him in the far more intimate setting of a New Jersey club, the type he played in his formative days. Filmed in 1991 on Southside Johnny’s home ground, the famous Stone Pony Club in Asbury Park this is type of highly-charged set which first gained him recognition as a major rock act. He is joined on stage for one of the numbers, 'I've Been Working Too Hard', by another New Jersey local hero, Jon Bon Jovi.
