Sidney (Neve Campbell) is troubled by the recent murder of her mother, her dad’s perpetual absence and her boyfriend's insistence that they go "all the way." But those worries pale in comparison to the fact that a serial killer has begun preying on Sidney's quiet hometown - starting with one of her classmates, Casey (Drew Barrymore). Using his love of horror movies, the killer takes everything he knows about the genre and uses it to trick his victims and throw his pursuers off the trail. Sidney's troubles are aggravated by a relentless TV tabloid reporter (Courteney Cox) who exploited the murder of Sidney's mother for her own wealth and fame.
