Malcolm Allen
Beyond Politics NDP MP Malcolm Allen was born in Glasgow, Scotland and emigrated to Canada with his family when he was 13. His father, a millwright found work in Ontario’s industrial centres before settling in the St. Catharines area. Malcolm became an electrician and worked at the local General Motors plant, eventually becoming an executive with the CAW(Canadian Auto Workers) Local 199. Growing up, Malcolm was taught about the importance of being involved with one's community and as a result, Malcolm became city councillor for the municipality of Pelham and later deputy Mayor. In 2008, Malcolm ran for the NDP in the riding of Welland and won, but by the narrowest of margins, only 300 votes. Malcolm and his wife of over 30 years, Peggy, have three children.
