To talk with us about Expo 2010, we have invited an expert on trade fairs into our studio: Dirk van der Coelen. He is the business manager of the Cologne Trade Fair and is in charge of the German pavilion at Expo 2010.DW-TV: The excitement is building for the Expo 2010. I’m joined by Dirk van der Coelen. He's managing director with the Cologne Trade Fair, and an expert on fairs. You're in charge of the German pavilion in Shanghai. The Chinese are hyping up this Expo as the world's biggest, the world's best. Will they deliver? Dirk van der Coelen: They have already delivered. When you see the surface, the area, the area of the World Expo in Shanghai is 5.3 square kilometers, the biggest area ever on both sides of the Huangpu River. They are expecting 70 million visitors, and at the moment more than 200 participants have already been registered.  DW-TV: We're talking about big numbers here. The Germans are investing a lot of manpower and money in their pavilion, saying it’s the biggest German pavilion ever. Why this investment? Dirk van der Coelen: Because we want to show — or the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology wants to show -- the performance of Germany relating to the concept "Better City, Better Life" and our interpretation of the "Better City." DW-TV: Who is your audience here? Most studies show that most visitors, most of the visitors to an Expo, are the inhabitants of the host country. That means your audience will be mainly Chinese. Is that who you're talking to, is that who you have thought about when you were putting this pavilion together? Dirk van der Coelen: Yes, absolutely. Yes, we know that 95 % of the people who will come to our pavilion are from China, are Chinese people. So it's very important for us, for the concept that we bring the message that we want to bring over in an entertaining way. DW-TV: Let me take you back in time ten years ago.
