What’s In The News: July 5, 2011
This is what’s in the news for Tuesday, July 5th. Reuters reports that Volkswagen AG (PINK:VLKAY) won a 55.9% stake in truck maker M.A.N. the Wall Street Journal reports that Western companies including Cisco Systems (NASDAQ:CSCO) will help build a new surveillance project in China, a citywide network of about 500,000 cameras that officials say will prevent crime but that human-rights advocates say could target political dissent. The Associated Press reports that the hacking of Fox's (NASDAQ:NWSA) political Twitter account will be investigated by the Secret Service, . The agency will conduct a probe of false postings claiming that President Obama had been assassinated. In a statement posted on its website, Fox News called the tweets "false" and "malicious". Finally, the Financial Times reports that MetLife (NYSE:MET) is eyeing further deals in the $3B-$4B range after last year's more than $16B acquisition of AIG's (NYSE:AIG) Alico business.
