A busy and bittersweet day for Deep Ecology, we conducted a technically challenging but successful Ghost Net recovery at a depth of over 200ft on the West side of Oahu. Afterwards we were told of a sea turtle wrapped in fishing line on the East side so we set out and conducted a search. Sadly what we found was a sea turtle not only wrapped in fishing line around both front fins and neck, but riddled with tumors caused by pollution. The turtle was already dead but his body was warm, indicating that he had just died. This turtle exemplified humanities worst attributes, those which result in untold destruction to the marine environment.
