Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report - 6.8.11 - Hello Summer...
iReport — Good morning. Here’s the Outer Banks Beach, Surf, & Fishing Report for Wednesday, June 8, 2011. This video was shot at the Lillian St. beach access in Kitty Hawk. Hello summer. Beaches and piers are busy every morning now. Gorgeous weather with temps in the 90′s, bright sun, and a great offshore breeze out of the Southwest. Yep, summer has arrived on the Outer Banks. This great weather will stick with us through the weekend…great beach weekend ahead! We have a little swell in the area today, and the offshore breeze is cleaning it up nicely. A fun longboard wave, and a great day to be in the water. In addition to the warm air temps, the water temps have jumped to the 70′s! Great OBX fishing too. Offshore is still seeing consistent dolphin and yellow fin tuna with some bill fish mixed in. The piers, bridges, and Sound are very consistent with a wide variety of fish – Spanish mackerel, blue fish, flounder, croaker, sea mullet – but the big catches over the past week have been cobia. As the water temps have warmed, cobia have moved into the area, and the catches have been very consistent. We got a great report from our friends at Rock Solid Fishing (www.RockSolidFishing.com) from yesterday, and they were fishing near shore and caught three large cobia – the largest being 66 pounds! Always a good time to be on the Outer Banks…especially now! Have fun!
