Jared Lee Loughner Shot Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford Judge John Roll Killed
Federal, state and local law enforcement authorities in Arizona are investigating a shooting in Tucson, Arizona in which Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot. Multiple others were shot as well. Congresswoman Giffords has been transported to a local medical facility with serious injuries. The suspect is in custody. No further details on the motive or other victims are available at this time. The US Capitol Police are directly involved in this investigation. As more information is developed, it will be provided. In the interim, all Members and staff are advised to take reasonable and prudent precautions regarding their personal security. A Democratic congressional source, who passed the guidance to The Huffington Post, was dispirited and a bit incredulous with the timing, noting that it took several hours leaving staffers with little to tell their bosses back in the districts. MSNBC reports that a federal judge was shot at the scene, and may have been killed, but the latter is unconfirmed. Jared Lee Loughner, the person reportedly being held under suspicion of shooting Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), was described by eyewitnesses as a young white man who looked like a fringe character. Jared Lee Loughner apparently shot Giffords and 12 others at a public event at a Safeway grocery store in Tucscon.
