World Music: Amadou and Mariam, "Masiteladi"
(Mali) Amadou and Mariam are probably the most successful musical export ever to come out of Mali. The back story is terrific; they met at a school for the blind, and have made a successful career of it, with collaborations with the cream of world music, most notably Manu Chao. The formula is a winner: keep it simple, keep it memorable. In "Masiteladi" the message is one of tough love; no matter how messed up things get, just keep going. In this life you cannot feel sorry for yourself, you can only thank God for your existence. The video uses a stick figure as Everyman, while Amadou and Mariam play the full-fleshed sages.Purchase the CD on Amazon.Download songs from the CD on Amazon.
