iReport — CNN iReporter - Patricia Smith volunteering in the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Community with:F.A.C.T.acronym forFamily Awareness and Community Teamwork in Oklahoma City, OK F.A.C.T. is a gang and crime prevention program for teens that is led by the City of  Oklahoma City Police Department headed up by Sgt. Wayland Cubit.  This program targets teens between the ages 8 – 18.  F.A.C.T. has shown that through early intervention in this program, they can help the youth in the city fight pressure to join gangs or participate in criminal activity. Last Evening the F.A.C.T. officers along with many other Oklahoma City police officers sponsored Hoopfest 2011 at the Northeast Oklahoma City Recreation Center.  Special guests included:  NBA 14-year veteran — Grant Long, who is now the OKC Thunder Team Television Analyst along with the infamous OKC Thunder Drumline.  Many other volunteers and parents from the community came out to share, meet and encourage the youth to include recording artist Sean Johnson and also Hilary HilToe Nortz and her group from Positive Hiphop.tv. Sgt. Fernando HernaNdez shared with CNN iReport three important factors that attributed to the success of this program: FIRM, FAIR AND FUN.  F.A.C.T. has grown substantially over the last year to include a second location. Grant Long from the OKC Thunder shared that 'Knowledge is Power' and to each youth should get as much as they can. The young people at the recreation center are surrounded by individuals that truly care about their being….how they are feeling, what grades they have received, whether they have food or shelter at their home—whether they are safe….as well as what is truly going on in their lives!  The police offiers and their families show the youth love and understanding; and let them know that they truly care and want to‘make-a-difference‘ in their life. Not only do the officers mentor these kids at the center; they follow them in their school functions…. i.e. talk to their ...
