Scrums Security costs for the upcoming G8 and G20 summits continued to be the top topic at scrums, as MPs Mark Holland (Liberal), Paul Dewar (NDP) and Wayne Easter (Liberal) commented on the soaring costs. New figures show that the total cost could now reach $1.2 billion. The opposition parties have asked both the parliamentary budget officer Kevin Page and Auditor General Sheila Fraser to into the summit costs. Holland and Easter were also asked about cutting back on cars and drivers for ministers. Britain recently announced that it would cut down on the number of ministerial cars and encourage its ministers to walk or take public transportation. Claude DeBellefeuille, the Deputy Whip for the Bloc Québécois, spoke to reporters about reports that Canada is willing to spend $1 billion on the G8 maternal and child health initiative, provided that other countries contribute as well. NDP MP Pat Martin commented on the final Oliphant Commission report, which will be released on Monday. The inquiry looked into the business and financial dealings between former prime minister Brian Mulroney and German businessman Karlheinz Schreiber.
