Minority Leader McConnell and other Senate Republican leaders spoke to reporters about the status of ongoing negotiations on the budget deficit and national debt reduction. Senator McConnell also spoke about a "last chance option" which would initially authorize a $700 billion rise in the debt ceiling, with a provision that Congress could disapprove of further increases. He said he thought the president would veto the measure, but that the White House could still raise the debt ceiling.
