Scrums Deepak Obhrai, the parliamentary secretary to the foreign affairs minister, NDP Foreign Affairs critic Paul Dewar, Liberal MP Martha Hall Findlay, and Bloc Québécois House Leader Pierre Paquette reacted to the news that Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak has stepped down. Dewar, Hall Findlay and Paquette also spoke to reporters about Conservative MP Steven Blaney’s private member’s bill requiring voters to have their faces uncovered and about whether kirpans should be allowed on Parliament Hill. The Quebec National Assembly has voted to ban Sikhs from carrying the small ceremonial daggers in the legislature. NDP Justice critic Joe Comartin and Liberal Multiculturalism critic Rob Oliphant also commented on Blaney’s bill.
