The History
His story! The famous Kalinga war was fought between Emperor Ashoka and the king of Kalinga in 261 BC at Dhauli, near Daya River, 8 km from Bhubaneshwar. It is said that more than 100,000 people were killed and 150,000 were wounded.  Ashoka had seen the bloodshed with his own eyes, he felt very guilty. He quitted war forever and actively engaged himself in the spread of Buddhism. Ashoka the Great, built the Ashoka Pillar during the 3rd century BC, it has been adopted as the National Emblem of India and the wheel `Ashoka Chakra' is placed in the center of the National Flag of the Republic of India, it was adopted on 22 July, 1947.
