Chris Warkentin
Beyond Politics Conservative MP Chris Warkentin was born and raised on the family farm outside of Debolt, Alberta. As a boy, Chris helped with all the chores and raised piglets for market, but never wanted to be a farmer. Instead Chris wanted to be an architect and his flair for design made Chris a natural fit at being a contractor which he learned from his uncle. Politics was never a priority for the Warkentins and Chris only became interested because of his high school social studies class. It was his teacher who taught Chris the importance of being able to back up and support an argument. By eighteen Chris had joined the local riding association. Chris had thought that someday he’d like to enter politics but not until after his children had grown up. When Charlie Penson, the sitting MP, announced his retirement in 2005, Chris decided to run and in 2006 at the age of twenty- seven became the Member of Parliament for Peace River. Married to wife Michelle, they have two girls, Abigail and Cobi. He spoke to Catherine Clark about his life Beyond Politcs.
