Tweet   Next year Ronald Reagan would have turned one-hundred years old. In celebration, the Reagan Presidential Foundation & Library has launched a Centennial Celebration. What better way to kick off a year of events than with the famous New Year’s Day Rose Parade in Reagan’s home state of California? Never before has a President-themed float cruised down Pasadena’s Colorado Boulevard in the Ros More..e Parade. Interestingly, the floats are required to be covered with plant material. To comply, the Reagan Centennial float is covered in rice, poppy seeds, onion seeds, and 65,000 roses; also, through the sponsorship of Jelly Belly jelly beans (one of Reagan’s favorite candies), I’m sure there will be plenty of jelly beans within reach. NBC Los Angeles gives you a sneak peak at the float in the video below; take a look at how the Sacramento Bee describes the float’s extraordinariness: It’s 55 feet long and 26 feet high, not to mention 18 feet wide. It features replicas of 11 black-and-white photos of moments in Reagan’s life, and those photos have been constructed by hand out of onion seed, poppy seed and rice. The float’s eagle? Its feathers were “artistically created with ironed magnolia leaves, interwoven with mahogany and red leaves, and finely detailed” with pampas grass and other materials…There’s also a replica of the statue of Reagan now at the U.S. Capitol, made of flax seeds.
