Lawrence schools examine busing policy
The Lawrence school district is considering measures to accomodate students that aren't eligible for free busing. Currently, students living within 2.5 miles of Lawrence schools are considered close enough to walk. The proposed changes would allow elementary students who lived over 1.5 miles away and junior high students who lived over 2 miles away to ride the bus for free. The district would pay for the students' transportation without reimbursement from the state. Rick Gammill, director of special operations for Lawrence Public schools said there was still a fee for families who didn't meet the requirements.
