Child star hopes to get a house for his family.
The rags-to-riches love story, "Slumdog Millionaire", may be tipped to sweep this year’s Oscars, but its child stars continue to live in poverty. It’s not where you’d expect to find one of the stars of this year’s favourite Oscar film. But this tarp tent is Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail’s home. The boisterous 10-year-old is one of the child stars of "Slumdog Millionaire", a film nominated for 10 Oscars this year. Yet the awards are far from his mind. Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, “Slumdog Millionaire”, “My only hope is that we’ll be able to get a house to live in.” The film-makers say they have enrolled Azharuddin in a nearby school, and set up a trust fund for when he’s 18. But his father says they need the money now. Payment from the film has vanished in daily expenses, and authorities have razed their slum home.
