Oral Cancer: Treatment and Reconstruction
For months Carolyn Coogan pursued dental solutions for the pain in her jaw. Then an MRI revealed cancer. Coogan and Dr. Neal Futran, director of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Washington Medical Center, recount the diagnosis and her available treatment options. Coogan’s treatment crossed medical disciplines, involving surgeries to remove cancer and reconstruct the jaw, and installation of the dental prosthesis. The program includes still images from Coogan’s jaw surgeries and models of the bones involved. From the Series:Talk Medicine
