A group of UNM Japanese students are trying to raise money for the relief effort in Japan. The students are holding fundraisers, while at the same time worrying about radiation affecting their loved ones back at home. The Japanese restaurant Kokoro, near Menaul Blvd. and San Pedro Dr. NE, is one of four restaurants in Albuquerque where you’ll see donation boxes and flyers advertising a flea market and bake sale. The idea is to raise as much money as possible over the next month to help their devastated home country. The paper cranes the students are making are symbols of hope in Japan. It's a fitting symbol for the months ahead as the country recovers from one of the most destructive earthquakes in recorded history. Eri Hoshi was born in Tokyo and has lived in Japan for most of her life. Her grandmother, who lives in Fukushima, is okay but her family pottery business was destroyed.
