Calder’s Portraits Reveal Another Side of Famed Artist
American artist Alexander Calder was best known for his abstract sculptures and mobiles. However, throughout his career, he also created portraits. A new exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington features more than 40 portraits and shows a different side of the artist, celebrated for his way of telling a story or projecting a person with materials that, before him, were scorned.
