Transforming Prevention and Intervention
Speaker: Raymond Knight, Ph.D. Title:Transforming Prevention and Intervention: What Guidance Does Etiological Research on Rape Provide? Current programs that are directed at preventing sexually coercive behavior have not been effective. Research on the prevention of aggression and impulsivity has suggested that prevention programs yield superior outcomes when they target risk factors that are causative rather than simply correlative. Models of the etiology of sexual aggression against women have developed to the point that they suggest likely causal mechanisms and intervening traits. Such knowledge can guide us in improving our prevention and intervention efforts. This talk focuses on identifying the most likely causal traits leading to sexual aggression against women and draws implications for prevention and intervention.
