The Next Generation of Scrabble
At the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin, developers used RFID technology with the Scrabble tiles and board. Each Scrabble tile contains a small RFID tag that can be read by the tile holder. It displays the letters as they are arranged and once a word is made on the board the computer calculates the total points. The development of the RFID Scrabble game was commissioned by toy maker Mattel and Fraunhofer has been working on the technology for about a year and said they need another 6 months before it can be commercialized. Also on display at IFA was a poker game that uses cards tagged with an RFID chip.
