Google Goes Green with Renewable Energy
Google is the dominant name in Internet search engine wars, but all that data being processed uses a lot of power. That’s why Google has vowed to become carbon neutral with their data centers, experimenting with hydroelectricity and solar power. Now Google wants to turn renewable energy into a new business opportunity, developing new energy saving technologies that could eventually be released commercially. Google's Chief Executive, Eric E. Schmidt, announced plans to collaborate with GE's CE on policies and technologies designed to improve the country's energy grid, while the search giant's philanthropic arm, Google.Org, has invested money in green energy startups. Last year, Google also launched RE C, an huge initiative with the goal of developing a clean, renewable energy that costs less than coal. Though many people question if an Internet company can really change the face of commercial renewable energy, Google seems deeply committed to the idea of making clean power a reality... and doing it profitably. With the investment of their massive resources and dedication of their innovative thinkers, don't count Google out as a major player in the renewable energy business. I'm Elizabeth Chambers.
