A little girl looks to her daddy for answers to unanswerable questions, but is comforted by the everyday facts of her life.  Sam(Sean Penn), a mentally handicapped employee of Starbucks with a Beatles fetish, has an eight-year-old daughter(Dakota Fanning). His daughter has surpassed his mental ability, which has marked him as an incompetent father, aside from the fact that he has successfully cared for a small child alone (no small feat) for eight years. Through a quirk of fate, high-powered attorney Michelle Pfeiffer end up taking his case.
