Even if you have a wedding planner, you're going to want to make sure you shop around for the perfect cake artist, so it will involve a bit of research. Make sure you take a look at the portfolio of each cake maker you consider to take a look at their past work. If they don't have a portfolio, that might be a redflag from the beginning. Ask to taste samples, with various types of cake and frosting until you find your perfect flavor. And make sure to ask about how much customization the cake maker will do... what kind of design can they make for your cake, and can they make your personal vision come true? And make sure to ask how long it will take them to prepare the cake so you know you've given them enough notice, then find out if they'll deliver the cake or if you have to have somebody pick it up from the bakery. Cake may be a sweet desert, but the business of picking a wedding cake can be hard work.
