At the northern end of lake Chelen, in Refrigerator Bay, you can catch the bus up to Holden Village. Holden is a Lutheran retreat and old mining village that offers itself today as a place for rest and spiritual rejuvenation. It also acts as a hub for all of the hiking trips through the area. If you don’t plan on staying at Holden as a volunteer you can pitch your tent in the surrounding camp sites and walk into the village to eat, shop at the local canteen, or hit up the ice cream parlor.
