It’s the Bronx
"It’s the Bronx" is a short experimental documentary about my ancestors. It incorporates original music, animation, old photographs and oral history to tell the story of the Schornstein family (and others), Jews who immigrated to the United States shortly before the turn of the 20th century. The video focuses primarily on life in the Bronx where the Schornsteins lived for several generations. It details the creativity of my ancestors, especially my late father and his parents. It also (subtly) brings up the issue of assimilation, as the Schornsteins decided to become "the Sloanes" in 1943. While doing this project I realized that many of the traits and talents that my siblings and I possess can be traced back through my ancestors. I was amazed to discover old photographs of people that looked so much like me.
