アメリカ大リーグ、ミネソタ・ツインズと正式契約を済ませた西岡 剛選手(26)が、入団会見に臨んだ。西岡選手は入団会見で、「わたしの名前は西岡 剛です。わたしはツインズファミリーの一員になれて、とてもうれしいです」と、慣れない英語でのあいさつを完ぺきに決めた。契約は、3年総額900万ドル(およそ7億5,600万円)で、背番号は「1」に決定した。26歳の若き「サムライ」が、ツインズを優勝に導く。西岡選手は「個人の成績も、本当にすごく大切になってくると思うんですけど、チームの優勝がね、本当にできるように。僕はどんな仕事でも、チームのためだったらしたいなと思ってます」と話した。
