euromaxx highlights
In this highlights edition: An Ice park in Switzerland, the return of the trench coat, a Porsche Design boat, artist Costas Varotsos, Christian Lacroix at the opera in Berlin and the very latest in sleds. Swiss Ice ParkKarl Neuhaus from Switzerland creates entire landscapes from ice. The frozen fairy tale world is around 30 kilometers south of Bern and a huge tourist attraction in the region. It features ice palaces that are up to 15 metres high. Trenchcoat TrendThe trenchcoat has been named the number one trend for the coming season. But they‘ve actually really been away from the fashion scene. It was invented by Thomas Burberry for British soldiers in World War One and the Burberry company remains famous for its trenchcoats to this day. The Porsche BoatFed up with old cruise boats and their drab interiors, two party organisers from the city of Regensburg make over a Danube pleasure boat with the help of Porsche design. Greek artist Costas VarotsosCostas Varotsos is famous for his huge sculptures and installations made of glass, steel and stone. His latest exhibition Utopia is showing in Athens until the end of February. Lacroix at the Berlin State Opera Fashion designer Christian Lacroix has designed costumes for a Berlin production of the baroque opera Agrippina by Georg Friedrich Händel. Trendy SledsThere has been a lot of snow here in Germany this year and most traditional wooden sleds are sold out. But there are alternatives around and euromaxx sent out reporter matthias Stamm to risk his life testing some of them.
