Tax Day Filing Extended
Good news for those of you who waited to the last minute to file your taxes, you now have until Monday, April 18th thanks to Abraham Lincoln. This year, taxpayers have an extra few days to file their federal income tax because the District of Columbia will observe Emancipation Day on today, Friday, April 15 which is normally tax day. Emancipation Day, the day commemorating President Lincoln freeing slaves in the District of Columbia is April 16, but since it falls on a Saturday the local holiday is being observed a day early. Taxpayers will have until Monday, April 18, to file 2010 returns. Taxpayers requesting an extension will have until Oct. 17 to file.
