Official U.S. World Asthma Day press conference [electronic resource]
(CIT): May 3, 2000 marks the second annual World Asthma Day, and more than 80 countries across the globe will observe it with special events. The official U.S. World Asthma Day event will be held in Washington, DC. Co-sponsored by the NHLBI and NLM, along with the Office of the Mayor, District of Columbia, and the Washington, D.C. Asthma Coalition, it will focus on the high prevalence of asthma in the U.S., especially in inner-city communities like the District of Columbia, and steps to curb it. The program will be hosted by NHLBI Director Dr. Claude Lenfant. Other participants include NLM Director Dr. Donald A.B. Lindberg, D.C. Department of Health Director Dr. Ivan Walks, and Grammy Award-winning Rap Artist and Asthmatic Coolio, Children from a Washington, D.C. School Asthma Club will perform a skit and sing a song to celebrate their ability to control their asthma.
