熊本市近津の鹿嶋宮の火の神祭りは、奇祭で知られる。今から1，100年前、新羅国の海賊が近津港へ攻めてきた時に、漁民たちは枯れ枝に火を付けて投げ付けて防戦したという故事に因む祭り。
