Top story: A man fighting extradition to the United States enters his fifth week on hunger strike in a Scottish jail. In other news: there are calls tonight for the government to hold emergency talks with the troubled care homes giant Southern Cross; police are investigating the death of a second resident at the Elsie Inglis nursing home in Edinburgh; a group of Edinburgh scientists are carrying out ground-breaking research which could help solve global warming; and in sport, Danny Grainger says he didn’t join Hearts to make up the numbers and insists he wants to become the first choice left-back.
