Made in Germany Takata — Japanese Ideas for German Cars
Japanese company Takata is a pioneer when it comes to steering wheels, safety belts and airbags. It supplies most of the major car manufacturers. The company is 75 years old and operates over 40 factories in 16 countries. Takata also has a presence in Germany, where it has merged with the company Petri. It’s a promising partnership given that Takata made the first safety belts back in the 1960s, while Petri developed the first airbag together with Daimler. Takata's European headquarters are in Aschaffenburg, but the business is planning to stay ahead of the game by opening a new research and development center in Berlin. Our reporter Mabel Gundlach set out to find out more.
