Nobel Lecture by Roy J. Glauber
Nobel Lecture by Roy J. Glauber (45 minutes)Roy J. Glauber held his Nobel Lecture December 8, 2005, at Aula Magna, Stockholm University. He was presented by Professor Sune Svanberg, Chairman of the Nobel Committee for Physics. Summary: What was considered in 1900 to be a perfect complete theory of light, changed with the introduction of the quantum theory of light by Max Planck and Albert Einstein in the early 1900s. Quantum optics and the theory of coherence was developed from the 1950s onwards. After comparing light from a conventional light bulb with that from a laser, the lecture ends by describing a meeting with Einstein at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Princeton in 1951.
