Sex offenders On Myspace
Up first, a civil rights group is urging Congress to push back the deadline for the digital tv switch. The group says that while the date has been set for about a decade, the Nielsen Company shows that about 6.5-million households have not yet purchased digital tv sets. It also says that funding is necessary beyond the 40-dollar-coupons already supplied, in order to help those who cannot afford a new television, including some of the elderly as well as low-income earners. The current planned switch date is February-17th and the group is asking for the House to extend it through the summer. An estimated 4-million children will be added to the US healthcare system. The House of Representatives met Wednesday to discuss the expansion, as already passed by the Senate. The State Childrens Health Insurance Program covers more than 6-million kids whose parents earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but do not qualify for private insurance. It will add about 32-billion dollars over the next 5 years to the program. And MySpace is in the middle of a cutback - however, this is not related to the economy. It recently identified and removed 90-thousand registered sex offenders from its site. Several attorney generals have been demanding MySpace enlist stronger safety regulations. And while the website originally resisted the subpeona due to privacy laws, MySpace is now on board by providing information about site users who are sex offenders. Thanks for watching the show.
