NC Boaters, Fisherman, and Water Sports Fanatics Paradise!
iReport — New Bern, NC - We visited our Lower Neuse Riverkeeper, Larry Baldwin. If you haven’t had the opportunity to meet Larry, he is very passionate about protecting our rivers, creeks, and water. People come from all over the World to live or visit New Bern because of the Neuse and Trent Rivers along with their numerous tributaries. That’s how New Bern was discovered over 300 years ago in 1710!Surrounded by water, locals and visitors enjoy yachting, boating, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, swimming, water skiing, fishing, crabbing, scuba diving, jet skiing, snorkeling, wind surfing, tubing, and anything you can do to enjoy our wonderful natural resource! If you want to continue to enjoy our waterways, please listen to what Larry has to say about how you can make a difference to protect “Our Waterways”. There is current legislation in the North Carolina General Assembly, specifically, House Bill 119, Senate Bill 781, and Senate Bill 709. If passed, Larry states, “these bills are going to have a very negative impact on our waters”. He urges residents to contact NC Representatives. For details, please click here.Larry also mentioned The United States Clean Water Act of 1972 is in jeopardy. He said it would be a “Serious problem in North Carolina and throughout the United States". Contact your State’s Representative and voice your opinion to make a difference here.On another note, for those who may or may not have had the opportunity to meet International Explorer Alexandra Cousteau (Jacques Cousteau’s Granddaughter), she visited New Bern in September 2010. She urged people to become stewards of their waterways for future generations.
