１１８秋田市大森山動物園
チンパンジー、疎開林や山地林から熱帯雨林といった様々な環境に生息する。主要な採食レパートリーは植物であり、葉・種子・樹皮・堅果・根等も食べるが、果実、とくに熟果を強く好む。一部の生息地域では同じく植物に強く依存するゴリラと共存しているが、採食の違いによって棲み分けが成されているとする研究者もいる。
