World Music: Peret, "Jalamandrú"
-Download on iTunes-Buy the album(Spain) The King of Catalan Rumba is back with "Jalamandru," a wry look at an unrepentant over-eater. Peret Pubill Calaf aka Peret has a career that goes way back to his first single in 1974 and he has aged most gracefully. In this Benny Hill-like outing, he plays the wise doctor who sees through his weak-willed patient’s protestations..but in the end, the message is not judgemental, but rather, that life it too short to diet! And like many of Peret's videos it all ends in a happy dance party. By the way Catalan, or Rumba Gitana should not be confused with the Cuban or Afro-Cuban Rumba...or for that matter, the Congolese Rumba. Rumba as Peret sings it can be heard in the international hits of the Gypsy Kings.
