World Music: Warsaw Village Band, "Lament"
(Poland) "Lament" is a traditional rural song that has been reprocessed through the Warsaw Village Band’s uniquely urban approach. While the lyrics read like a fairly typical story of a fallen warrior of old, Maja Kleszez's vocals are as freewheeling in tone as any New Music diva's. The videographer Kacper Skowron chose to show the juxtaposition of the traditional and modern inherent in Kleszez's interpretation, by beginning the video in a bucolic setting, and ending in a highly industrial landscape. This is not just a geographical transition however; the river is Styx, the rower is the soul, as it goes from that which it knows, to the unknown. The rower observes the aggrieved woman and her flowers, but that is all he can do.Download on iTunesPurchase on Amazon
