Leaked Documents Shed Stark Light on Afghan War
(Al Jazeera English News Headlines: July 26, 2010) Over 90,000 classified U.S. military and intelligence documents have been leaked to the public by the website WikiLeaks.org. Some revelations include that the U.S. underreported civilian casualties in Afghanistan, and that Pakistan played an active role supporting the Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan. The founder of WikiLeaks suggested the documents also implied that war crimes had possibly been committed in Afghanistan. A senior Khmer Rouge commander has been sentenced to prison for war crimes; his victims were shocked that the convicted torturer received a reduced sentence of 19 years in prison. The family of a Palestinian-American shot dead by Israeli police is pursuing murder charges.
