018 NYC Hotel Room
Over a period of two years, Peter had finally saved up enough money to take a trip to New York. He found a package fare online that included round trip airfare and accommodations with a complimentary breakfast each morning. The three-star hotel was smack dab in the middle of Times Square. But when Peter was shown to his room, he got the shock of his life. First of all, the room was tiny with a single bed, it was supposed to be a king sized bed. And the supposed view overlooking Times Square, was, in reality, a view overlooking the dumpsters in the alleyway. The stench was overwhelming. He decided to close the window and turn on the AC, only to find that it was on the blink. It was sweltering. New York was in the grips of a record heat wave. And even though it was 11:30 p.m., it was 39 degrees Celsius (or 95 gradi Fahrenheit)! This wasn’t how he had imagined his first few moments in the Big Apple. It really threw him for a loop. He called the desk to complain. He dialed “0” and a cheery voice answered “Front desk, how may I help you?”. “Hello, this is Mr. Smith in room 102”, he said, “my AC is on the fritz”. “I’m very sorry, but there’s a union strike and unfortunately we can’t do anything about it” said the man at the front desk. “Well, that’s just great!” said Peter sarcastically, “how am I supposed to sleep with that stench in the alleyway?”. “Breathe through your mouth” suggested the voice on the other end. Peter then decided to take a shower and get ready for bed, but when he turned on the water, nothing happened. “NO WATER?” he wondered aloud. “This is unbelievable!” He called down to the front desk again. “This is Mr. Smith again in room 102. There’s no water in my room!”. “Oh, that’s because there’s been a water main break. They’re working on it now. You should have water before you know it” said the man. “In the meantime, try to get some rest”. “I guess I have no choice”, answered Peter.
