Disease destroys trees
Pinewood nematode wilt disease has killed millions of pine trees across the country. Nematodes, a microscopic worm-like insect, burrow into the tree and lay eggs. Ann Peuser, owner of Clinton Parkway Nursery, said if the infected trees were not disposed of properly then the eggs would hatch and the insects would transmit the disease to healthy pines.
