-Buy the album(Brazil) Bossa Nova estabished forever the kind of laid back, voice-in-you-ear sound that abounds in the popular music of Brazil and also in the work of producer Beto Villares. Known most recently for his work producing Céu, here he is out from behind the console (though still producing) and singing and playing guitar. In "Africa Lá" he creates a spare collage of sounds, with a bit of Portuguese patter, bass with a ton of slap-back, a splash of accordion, processed samba drums, slithery shaker and several chants that veer from hypnotic to menacing. The video follows suit with no particular narrative, just quick cuts of dancers and children, Villares singing through a megaphone from a passing car, and one very winsome parrot.
