Energy & the Environment - CC#78
To reach the goal of energy security, the Bush Administration is relying, in part, on a Department of Interior study that calls for increased oil and gas production in the American West. But, more than half of these oil and gas deposits are located on federal land and fully one third are closed to development. Environmentalists are outraged by the plan, saying it favors business interests over endangered species and wilderness areas. Proponents say development is needed to lessen dependence on foreign oil and to promote job creation. How do we balance environmental concerns and resource exploration?
