BAVC Tour
channelAustin’s Communications Director Stefan Wray visited the Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC), the new home for community television in San Francisco, on April 22, 2010. BAVC was established in 1976 as a nonprofit media arts organization. Its mission is "to inspire social change by enabling the sharing of diverse stories through art, education, and technology." BAVC has been managing San Francisco's public access channels for only 6 months since September 2009. It was awarded the management contract following an RFP process by the City of San Francisco. It has re-branded public access TV as "SF Commons." Note that SF Commons only makes up a portion (25% of total budget) of BAVC's facilities and resources.
