美國國防部表示，正評估網站披露阿富汗戰爭機密文件所造成的影響。 網站「維基解密」公布9萬份阿富汗戰爭機密文件，被認為是美國歷來最大規模軍事情報外洩。 網站創辦人阿桑奇表示，有足夠證據顯示美軍犯下戰爭罪行，他又聲言，行動只是一個開始。 在目前公布的機密文件當中，顯示美軍在阿富汗的形勢並不樂觀，包括美國支持的巴基斯坦將領暗中協助塔利班武裝份子，塔利班的實力亦被低估，美軍在戰場上亦造成平民死傷。
