Influenced by Mondrian, Rothko and Matisse, since the 1970s he has restricted himself to a severely reduced formal repertoire of lines, stripes and blocks. Horizontal and vertical stripes and coloured fields create an all-over structure that nevertheless incorporates a tension between repetition and contrast, balance and imbalance, and symmetry and asymmetry.
